LAVIAN CRIMINAL BAR ASSOCIATION

 

Latvian sworn advocates, who are practicing criminal defense advocates and who have common views and goals, establish an association.

The name of the association is ”LATIVIAN CRIMINAL BAR ASSOCIATION”, abbreviation – „LCBA”.

The primary purpose of the Association is to unite sworn criminal defense advocates, who are interested constantly to develop themselves, improve quality of defense and promote effective defense in a criminal process by contributing into establishment and enforcing of rule of law in Latvia in a sphere of criminal process.

The goals of the association are:

1. promotion of common knowledge about issues of criminal law, criminal process, enforcement of criminal punishment, especially of defense in criminal process;
2. promotion of unity of Latvian sworn defense advocates practicing criminal law and process;
3. promotion and strengthening of good reputation and prestige of Latvian sworn defense advocates practicing criminal law and process in a society;
4. ensuring of a high level of  professionalism of Latvian sworn defense advocates practicing criminal law and process, continuing legal education and improvement of their qualification;
5. promotion of democratic understanding of the law in a society;
6. defend and represent rights and interests of Latvian sworn defense advocates practicing criminal law and process, including in state, municipal and non-governmental institutions;
7. support defense advocates  - veterans, provide them aid, including, financial aid;
8. study and collect information about prominent advocates in Latvian history, preserve information about their personality and professionalism;
9. facilitation of exchange of experience between Latvian sworn defense advocates practicing criminal law and process;
10. cooperation with other associations with similar goals.

• co-chair of the board Saulvedis Varpins (Saulvedis Vārpiņš);
• member of the board Inga Lauce;
• member of the board Oskars Rode;
• member of the board Guna Varslavane (Guna Varslavāne).
