Opinion of the board of the LCBA
With a pleasure we would like to ascertain that during the last month amount of members of the LCBA has grown up, as well as an interest to become a member of the LCBA and for events organized by the LCBA.
The first seminar of the LCBA – «Some issues of
communication psychology and complex psychological-polygraph
expertise» – was successful. We are proud of the fact that
a lot of participants of this seminar were not member of the LCBA,
i.e., colleagues specializing in other areas of law as we
assistants of judges.
We are planning to offer different interesting seminars and
lectures within a framework of our educational program.
As usual we are participating on different working groups of Ministry of Justice on law projects’ discussion, including working out of a concept of the role and functions of the Bar and in the sub-committee of the Latvian Parliament (Saeima) on amendments of the Criminal procedure law.
We are sorry to hear reprimands that the LCBA tries to establish alternative Bar or to duplicate functions of the Bar. On the contrary – we do not want to minimize the results of previous general meeting of sworn advocates and to make changes in the composition of the current Council.
Many discussions have been brought about a project of
the Amnesty law – the LCBA expressed its support to the idea of the
chairman of the Latvian Bar Janis Grinbergs.
We think that any kind of expression of public commiseration,
generosity and humanism is welcomed and shall not be punished. It
seems that our society likes to discuss such issues only about
Christmas time.
We have to agree with our colleague Andris Grutups – it is funny,
that sworn advocates hurry to condemn this project of Amnesty
law.
Why has this project been worked out and what is its purpose? The
most important is that its purpose was at least a bit to minimize
suffering of people, who have not deserved a sanction – isolation
from the society.
